Today we baked. The kids voted on a recipe from a children's baking book I have in the classroom. They voted on Itsy Bitsy Spiders. First we mixed together the ingredients. We read the directions and talked about kitchen measuring tools and what their differences are. Here she is holding the tablespoon after we measured in three tablespoons of oil. We talked about each step in the process.
Then each student took a turn pouring the batter into the muffin tins. We all went to the kitchen and put the muffins in the oven but I didn't get a picture of that.
While it was fun baking and mixing the ingredients, the real fun came later when we got to decorate! We chose what color icing to use by creating it with food coloring. The legs were made out of Twizzlers Pull 'N Peel and the spiders' eyes were made from chocolate drops. They could make their spider however they chose.
Short legs...
Blue with no legs...
Legs everywhere...
She chose to make a ladybug instead. She divided up the sections on the back instead of using them for long legs. And used sprinkles as the ladybug's spots. So creative!
We had a blast doing this activity. But the best part was of course getting to eat them at the end!
